Competition Fee - $115
This is an optional comp that is being held in our hometown. Not all girls could be there to do group dances, so Lindsey is just doing her solo.

Dance Day 3...Final Day!!!!
We were up late and then up early. Breakfast, getting ready and checking out was the only thing we had going on this morning. And there was no snow, just cold weather!
Jazz and Lyrical were the only dances today and they were back to back with early awards.
Award Time...
Jazz - Platinum
Lyrical - Platinum
After awards we came home and got to relax for the evening. The dog and cats were extremely happy we were home, and so were we!

My kids wondered why we didn't stay here! It might have helped with all the snow and ice. |

Dance Day 2
Because Lindsey didn't dance until 4, we had plenty of time to do what we wanted.
We slept in, had breakfast, and the kids got to swim until we had to get ready. About 3 inches of snow fell over night, and when we went out to my car at 1:30 to head to the theater, I was scraping snow and ice off. Grrrr!
This was a long day at the theater! We had Production and then awards. Then Acro and Tap, with Awards at 10 PM. We were exhausted by the end of the night!
We had dinner at the theater because there was no time to go out between dances. I will say this was a nice option to have.
And, my son is a trooper! I promised him Cold Stone Creamery, but they were closed by the time we left. So we need to make a trip now that we are home. LOL
Award Time...
Production - Platinum; 1st Overall
Acro - Platinum; 2nd Overall
Tap - High Gold
Wendy's (Lunch) - $12.35
Dinner at the Theater - $20.50
Snacks - $10
Total for Day 2 - $42.85

Dance Day!
Lindsey only had her solo today and it wasn't until 3 PM, so we had plenty of time to relax.
We slept in, went down stairs and had breakfast, took our time getting ready and checked out by noon.
We were there pretty much from the start, got her ready and she then danced her solo. Again she did a fantastic job! She had trouble on her turns this time around, but she did great!
Award Time...
Solo - High Gold
After awards, the plan was to just go home and then come back the next afternoon since she didn't dance until 4. We lived only an hour and a half away, so it would have been fine. But, thanks to our crazy weather and a snow storm, we ended up staying. Ugh!
Program - $10
Hotel - $160.26
McDonald's (Dinner) - $18.35
Gas - $10
Snacks - $10
Total for Day 2 - $208.61

Since Lindsey was dancing Friday afternoon and a fellow dance mom was able to get me a discount on a room, the kids and I went up to Warren, OH on Thursday night for the start of our second comp of the season.
This was Applause Talent in Warren, OH. We were supposed to be in Columbus, OH, but it was sold out before our studio owner could register for it.
So, the kids went to school Thursday, I went to work and we were supposed to leave by 3. Yeah, baseball things got in the way, so we finally left around 5. It was an uneventful drive.
We checked in, went and picked up dinner and the kids then swam for the rest of the night.
Gas - $20
Snacks - $17.20
Hotel - $67.70
Chipotle (Dinner) - $25.18
Starbuck's - $5.20
Total for Day 1 - $135.28

This is an optional event. We've never done one, other than at our own studio, so I figured we'll try it out.
She had the option of competing her solo, but because my son has baseball games that weekend as well, she's not.

Last Dance Day!
Again we were up early, had breakfast downstairs, got ready and we're at the theater by 10 AM.
Production, Tap and Acro were up today and all were pretty much back to back. My dad and step mom stayed to watch the dances, but left before awards started. She was starting a round of chemo in Pittsburgh the next morning, so they needed to leave early.
Award Time...
Production - 4.75 Stars; 2nd Overall; Golden Ticket to Worlds
Tap - 4.75 Stars; 1st in Category (Small Group Tap 11); 3rd Overall
Acro - 4.75 Stars; 3rd Overall
Tap really surprised me! It had been one of those hot mess dances, but I guess worked itself out.
Again, so proud of these girls and all their hard work!
My kids wanted to do a little shopping at the mall before we left. They both had their allowance burning a hole in their pocket. We stopped for a late lunch at the food court before heading home.
We were home by 7 PM and it was early bed time for everyone!
I'd say our first comp of the season was certainly a successful one!
China Max (Lunch) - $7.86
Taco Bell (Lunch) - $14.54
Gas - $10
Total Spending Day 3 - $32.40

When sleeping in is 8 AM, that is pretty sad. But, we slept in until 8, went down for our free breakfast, then came back and got ready for dance day!
Lindsey had Lyrical and Jazz in the morning and then her Solo after Awards in the afternoon.
We met my dad and step mom at the theater and when my son got bored, they took him across the street to the mall to eat.
We had a big break between jazz, awards and when her solo started, so they went back to the hotel as well and took my son with them. It was nice not having to listen to whining for awhile.
Award time...
Lyrical - 4.75 Stars; 1st Place in Category (Large Group Lyrical 13); 2nd Overall in Large Group; Golden Ticket to Worlds
Jazz - 4.74 Stars; 1st Place in Category (Large Group Jazz 13); 4th Overall in Large Group
So proud of these girls (and boys)!
After awards, Linds had to get ready for solo. This is her first year competing a solo, so she was nervous and even I was nervous.
She was in the beginning of the pack, but she nailed it! So proud of my baby girl!
After she danced we ran over to the mall to pick up dinner and Starbuck's and then wait for awards.
Award Time...
Solo - 4.5 Stars; 1st in Category (Solo Jazz 13)
So, so, so proud of my girl!!!
I can't remember if more dances were going on after us, I think there were, but at 7:30 we were done for the night. Phew!
We had dinner in the hotel restaurant that night. My kids swam, while my dad, step mom and I waited for the food. Thanks to my dad I didn't have to pay for dinner. WooHoo! I like when he comes. LOL
Program Book - $12
Chic-Fil-A (Lunch) - $13.28
Starbuck's - $10.38
Holiday Inn (Bed time snack) - $12.50
Total Spent Day 2 - $48.26

Since we compete in another comp starting this afternoon, why not update from the last one.
My kids skipped school Friday afternoon. They had a 2 hour delay to begin with, so there was no point in sending them to school late and then take them out early. It was nice to sleep on and take our time getting things ready to go for the weekend.
I made breakfast before we left. Of course Lindsey automatically thinks a road trip needs to be started off with Starbucks. Well, hers came from the Keurig at home because we don't exactly have a Starbucks on every corner in our little town.
We stopped for gas and we werethen on our way. Yay!
Our first comp was Star Power in Charleston, WV. Our dances didn't start until Saturday, but we went down a day early to relax and let the girls have fun in the hotel pool.
We made it to the hotel, checked in with no problems, headed to our room and my kids automatically changed into swim suits. The pool over looked the lobby so we could slowly see people we knew trickle in to the hotel. Eventually there was a big group of us hanging out in the pool area.
I posted on FB where we were and a friend I graduated high school with commented that she lived around the corner. I asked her for dinner recommendations and the kids and I settled on Chinese. My daughter isn't a big fan and almost ALWAYS gets sweet and sour chicken because it's like chicken nuggests, but she loved this one! It was good, but basic Chinese food. LOL
After dinner, more swimming, and showers, it was an early bed time for dance comps in the morning!
Gas - $20 (Full tank)
McDonald's - $15.41
Hotel - $276.63 (2 nights)
Taste of Asia - $32.07 (dinner) + $7.90 (2 drinks)
Total Day 1 - $352.01

Beautiful Day! Somewhere in West, By God, Virginia |
We were about 30 minutes from our hotel when we stopped at McDonald's. How do you know your in the south? The sweet tea tastes better and you can't get Egg McMuffins, only biscuits. LOL My son was totally baffled by this.

Ahhhhh! It's the night before our first dance competition and I'm going a little crazy trying to make sure everything is packed and ready to go.
My daughter doesn't dance until Saturday afternoon, but we are leaving tomorrow afternoon. It'll be nice to sleep in a little before we hit the road.
We are all so excited, though! Lots of messages with other dance mom friends this evening making sure we are all ready.
I wanted to add a picture update of our competition shirts and dance bag. I love them so much better than last years! It has GLITTER! Everything is better with glitter! LOL

Dress Rehearsal Day!
We were up at 7:30 to get ready. Had to be at the local high school by 9. After a quick trip home made by me to pick up forgotten shoes and ear rings, they were dancing their first dance by 9:45.
Phew! This day is just exhausting and a lot of work, but we do have a lot of fun!

My son had to get his hair cut, so I picked this up for Lindsey. Of course after I paid $16 for this stuff, I find one by a cheaper brand for like $4 at Target. Of course!
We have a new hairstyle this year, and hair has to be as straight as can be, so not only do I have to buy a straightner, this is to help protect the ends.
Total for Iron Tamer - $16
(I will say this was buy one, get one 50% off, so I did get 2 for $16).

Not as bad as last month, but still high. Next month will be just awful thanks to our first dance comp.
I feel like I bleed money this time of year thanks to dance and baseball season for my son. I seriously need a money tree to sprout in my back yard.

Another dance shopping trip...
With Lindsey's tap costume she needs black tights. I asked about ordering them from the studio, but since she has pants on, the secretary said just to buy knee highs because it'll be a lot cheaper.
Works for me! My sensory issue child hates tights to begin with, so with one less layer I'll have one happy girl.
So, off to Walmart we go...
5 little packages of knee highs - $0.50 each
And since we were there, and Lindsey's solo costume needed a little extra, I bought a thing of rhinestones and stoning glue to make her costume sparkle a little.
I thought this was going to be a chore, and it was, but I enjoyed it!
Rhinestones - $3.97
Stoning glue - $6.97
And the last thing was a 2 pack of garment bags from Target. I love these things! Of course there are all kinds of fancy dance garment bags, I've looked and thought of buying them, but these work great for us.
Garment bags - $3.48
(And they were on sale! I should have bought all of them on the hook because I'm sure they are about to be discontinued. Ugh!)
Total - $16.92

Make Up!
Dance pictures are this weekend, comp dress rehearsal is the following weekend and our first comp is in 2 weeks. Time to get the ball rolling with make up and hair stuff.
Our studio owner sent out a spreadsheet for hair/makeup/shoes/accessories and we have a new way of doing hair this year. Of course, just as I was getting good with the other one.
So, we headed to Target and I stocked up on pretty much everything we needed (and a lot of unwanted items because duh, Target). I did pick up a few items at other stores, but most everything was from Target. And, because I spent more than $20 on cosmetics and hair items, I received a $5 gift card which will go towards a DS game for my son. He's such a good dance brother! LOL
The following items are what work for us, some items are new and my daughter wanted to try them out, so I suggest buying what works for you.
L'Oréal Tru Match foundation - $8.99
L'Oréal Tru Match powder - $8.99
e.l.f blush stick - $1
I love this stuff! I bought this at our local grocery chain. We had it last year and the coverage is great and stays on.
Cover Girl Tru Blend blush - $8.49
Cover Girl Color Stay lipstick - $6.99
Cover Girl Plumpify Blast Pro mascara - $8.99
Maybeline Masterprecise Skinny eyeliner - $6.99
e.l.f baked eye shadow pallete - $10
False lashes (2 sets) - $9.99 each
Eye lash glue - $5.39
We used Revlon last year and really liked it. Hoping this is just as good since it was all I could find at Target and wasn't about to stop at Walmart for the night either.
Neutrogena make up wipes - $4.99
Herbal Essence hair spray - $3.02
Herbal Essence spray gel - $2.67
Goody travel brush - $2.50
Goody combs - $1.54
Goody hair ties - $4.99
Conair bobby pins - $1.94
All fits perfect in the Caboodles we got last year at I think Walmart.
Total - $106.46

Jazz shoes - $43
I'd like to say that my daughter outgrew her last pairv and that's why we had to get new ones, but nope, she lost her other pair.
Grrrr!
I think she'd lose her head if it wasn't attached to her body.

Dance picture time!
I normally go with a personal photographer, but this year my daughter wanted them done with the studio photographer. I think no matter who I pick, it ends up costing me the same amount of money.
Since she has 7 costumes, the sitting fee is $30. (Five and under it is $25). This includes our recital button and then a small package of photos. The pictures are uploaded to a web site we can then order from.
Our personal photographer was the same, but her price included a copy righted CD which I could then go to Walmart to print out.
I still may end up going to her in order to get some headshots and Pointe shoe pictures, along with family photos, but I need to see the cost of all of this first.

Mary Kay Eye Make Up Remover - $15
A friend of mine held a Mary Kay party and I went. I ordered a bottle of the eye make up remover and holy cow this stuff is great!
I swear I do not sell this stuff and I'm not sponsored by them, but you should totally check this stuff out! Most eye make up removers leave an oily mess behind and messes with my contacts, but this stuff...NONE! It is fantastic!
More make up posts will be coming in a few weeks. I'm gathering stuff a little at a time and will list what is in our kit and what is new and the prices.

Solo costume balance - $9.75
This costume looks so much better in person! And it fits her perfectly! I might add some bling to it, though? The side bustle just needs a little sparkle along with the straps in the back.
They are wearing their hair a different way this year, so maybe no bling to the back is needed?
Just another added expense...

Session 6 Tuition - $260
I thought our monthly bill would go down a little since we had to quit Acting (and they ended up cancelling the class due to the teacher directing an out of town play), but nope, still the same amount thanks to having am extra Jump/Turn and Stretch class.

And few updates...
I think I'm finally caught up on posts! Sorry for the lack of them recently, but my kids sure like to keep me busy! I need to paint my car yellow and add a taxi sign to the roof! I think I should add how much I pay in take out/fast food to my list of dance expenses. LOL
First, Lindsey was accepted into the volunteer program at our local zoo. She is so excited to start! The classes start next Saturday, so that means she has to quit acting. Yay on our monthly bill being a little cheaper, but boo to having to quit! (She auditioned for a Christmas play her acting teacher was directing and landed a small part, so we'll definitely audition for more plays, just not right now due to time constraints. I'll add a few pictures at the end to show off my little actress).
Costumes are slowly coming in. We have lyrical, tap and ballet already here at home. I love, love, LOVE the ballet one! I'll take pictures and add them when we have our big comp dress rehersal in March. Lindsey won't humor me and try them on when we get home. I've tried, but it's pure torture for both of us. LOL
And lastly, a girl quit Lindsey's group right after Christmas. At least 3 dances have had to be reworked, two of them with partner work. Jazz was looking awesome, but now it's just kind of blah. I'm sure everything will work itself out, it's just a little disappointing for sure.
That's about all I can think of for now. I hope to keep up a little better now, but February is looking just as busy as January. Hope y'all are staying warm and aren't getting too much snow! We live in the northeast so that is a normal for our winters. Yuck! (I'm asking for a snow blower next year for my birthday! I hate having to shovel our sidewalk and driveway!)
Adding a few photos of the play Lindsey was in in December since I've been lacking them lately. I'm so proud of my little actress! (My son was also had a small role in the play).
